abstract The present invention relates to a system for precipitating salt comprising a column and a crystallizer in communication with the column. The present invention also relates to a method for the precipitation of salts comprising fluid in a single stream containing a first reagent in a column and introducing a second stream containing a second reagent in the column. In particular, the method comprises introducing gas to a stream, having sodium sulfate and water, in a column. The method also comprises the precipitation of sodium metabisulfite from the sodium metabisulfite stream in a crystallizer and removing the slurry of sodium metabisulfite from the crystallizer button. In still another embodiment, the invention relates to a system for the precipitation of salts comprising a column having at least one internal element a crystallizer, in communication with the column, and a recirculation system, in communication with the crystallizer and the column. The system also has a tank mixing slurry with the re-circulation of the system and the column
