titleOfInvention | COMPOSITIONS OF INORGANIC MATRIX AND COMPOUNDS THAT INCORPORATE THE MATRIX COMPOSITION. |
abstract | A modified alkali silicate composition to form an inorganic network matrix. The modified alkali silicate matrix is made by reacting an alkali silicate (or its precursors, such as an alkali hydroxide, a source of SiO2 and water), an inorganic acidic composition, such as a reactive acidic crystal, water and optional fillers, additives and process aids. An inorganic matrix compound can be prepared by applying a suspended paste of the modified aqueous alkali silicate composition to a reinforcing medium and applying the temperature and pressure necessary to consolidate the desired shape. The compound can be molded by compression molding or other well-known manufacturing methods. A notable aspect of the invention is that, although the compound and the net resin components prepared of the invention can exhibit excellent dimensional stability at 1000 oC and higher, they can be prepared at temperatures and pressures lower than those typical in organic polymer processing. . |
