abstract | A process for preparing a sulfuric acid amine salt (I) represented by formula (I) is provided, which is a neutralization compound between a sulfated compound having a long chain alkyl or alkenyl group and an amine having a long chain alkyl or alkenyl group, useful as a softener. (see formula) wherein R31 is an alkyl or alkenyl group of 12 to 36 carbon atoms, linear or branched or a group represented by the formula R36- (OA) n-, (where R36 is an alkyl or alkenyl group of 12 to 36 carbon atoms, linear or branched, OA is an oxyalkylene group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms and n is a number of 0.1 to 10 on average); R32 is an alkyl or alkenyl group of 10 to 36 carbon atoms, linear or branched; X is -CONH-, -NHCO, -COO- or -OCO-; R33 is an alkylene group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, linear or branched; R34 is an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, linear or branched or a group represented by R5- [B-R6] b-, R35 is an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, linear or branched, wherein R5 is an alkyl or alkenyl group of 10 to 36 carbon atoms, linear or branched, R6 is an alkylene group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, linear or branched, B is a group selected from the group consisting of -COQ-, -OCO-, -CONH- and -NHCO-, b is a number of 0 or 1 and m is a number of 0 or 1.
