abstract This invention provides a method for preparing (S) - (+) - 3- (aminomethyl) -5-methyl-hexanoic acid (pregabalin) or a salt thereof by means of an asymmetric hydrogenation synthesis. Pregabalin is useful for the treatment and prevention of disorders caused by attacks (accesses), pain and psychotic disorders. The invention also provides intermediate compounds useful in the production of pregabalin.
