titleOfInvention | COMPOSITIONS OF MODIFIED REOLOGY AND MODIFICATION AGENTS. |
abstract | A method for preparing an aqueous composition of modified rheology, particularly useful for drilling, grinding and mining applications, is described. The method includes mixing, with a clay and water, a material or materials whose constituents substantially conform to the proportions of the empirical formula M ?? M ???? n (OH) (2m + 3n + qa + br) (Aq ) a (Br) b.xH2O, where M ?? it represents at least one divalent metal cation and m is an amount of greater than 0 to about 8; where M ???? it represents at least one trivalent metal cation and n is an amount of more than zero to about 6; where A is a negative anion or radical of Valencia that is monovalent or polyvalent, it is already a quantity of ions A of Valencia q, with the proviso that if A is monovalent, a is more than zero to about 8, and if A is versatile, a is from more than zero to about 4; where B is a second negative anion or radical of Valencia that is monovalent or polyvalent, and where b is an amount of B ions of Valencia R and b is zero to about 4; with the proviso that (m + n) is greater than or equal to 1; with the additional condition that qa + br cannot be greater than 2m + 3n; and with the condition that qa cannot be equal to 2m + 3n; and with the still additional condition that (2m + 3n + qa + br) is less than 3; and where xH2O represents excess hydration water, being x zero or more. Particularly preferred are hydrotalcite and calcined hydrotralcite similar materials as starting materials. Optionally, a compound containing nitrogen, an aluminum oxide, or both can be added. The resulting composition is preferably an elastic solid that exhibits stress-dependent fluidity, resistance to desirable temperature, inhibition of reactivity, relatively low cost and resistance to pressure. A dry composition and a method for making it are also described. |
