Fluorinated amine compounds, R1 iArF-ER2, are disclosed where ArF is a fluoroaryl substituent, E is nitrogen or phosphorus, each R is independently a C1-C20 hydrocarbyl substituent, or two Rs can be connected to form a C2-C20 cycloaliphatic substituent, substituted or unsubstituted, R1 is a C1-C20 halogenated hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyl, and i is 0, 1 or 2. These compounds can be protonated and formed into complexes with substantially non-coordinating anions suitable for preparing polymerization catalyst components. When these catalyst components are combined with organometallic catalyst precursors, the catalyst precursor is activated to a catalyst. This catalyst is combined with monomer under conditions of polymerization of olefins to prepare polymers. High number average molecular weight polymers, at high productivity rates, were observed using metallocene catalysts activated with [N-pentafluoro-phenyl pyrrolidiniol [tetrakis (pentafluorophenyl) boratol. |
