This invention relates to a method for the treatment of circulating water in paint application booths, wherein the paint particles are dispersed by the addition of dispersion agents selected within the group consisting of: a) homopolymers and copolymers based in maleic acid, acrylic acid and / or methacrylic acid with a molar mass within a range of 2500 to 500,000; b) non-ionic surfactants; c) anionic surfactants, so that no additional polyaspartic acid is added to the circulating water in said case and d) agents of formation of inorganic or non-polymeric organic complexes as well as mixtures thereof, their total concentration being within a range of 0.01 to 2.0% by weight in relation to the circulation water. In accordance with said method for the treatment of circulating water in paint application booths, the circulating water has a hardness of at least 22 in accordance with that measured according to the German water hardness measurement system. By adding dispersion agents in concentrations within a range between 0.001 and 2.0% by weight relative to the circulating water, the paint particles are dispersed in such a way that they have an average particle size of less than 20 µm according to determined by laser diffraction. |
