A blood sample is prepared in a way that makes it possible to subsequently analyze the proteins in the sample, for example, in order to detect prions in the sample. The sample is extracted, allowed to coagulate and is subjected to a separation process (for example, centrifugation) to obtain serum. The serum is treated with a complexing agent that binds prions in the sample forming an agent / protein complex that makes it possible to concentrate the complex. The concentration of the complex results in a sample that can be analyzed successfully, for example, tested by using a range of different types of test methodologies for prion detection (see figure). |
