abstract The use of a formulation comprising the components: (a) a volatile chemical inducer; (b) an alcohol of 10 to 20 atoms of polyethoxylated carbon or a polyethoxylated triloxane and (c) a diluent; to control the expression of a target gene that has a chemically inducible plant gene expression cassette comprising an inducible promoter operably linked to a target gene, wherein the inducible promoter is induced by the application to the plant of (a) above. Certain novel formulations are also claimed.
