titleOfInvention CRUSHING SURFACE MEMBRANE PICKING.
abstract The invention provides a novel development of the conventional membrane puncture technique for measuring the electrical activity of whole cells. The invention provides one or more cell or cells that will be suspended in a liquid medium on an adjoining liquid / air surface (by virtue of the surface tension effect on the adjoining surface), whereby the cell or cells have access in the surface adjacent to an electrode of 10 microstructure (such as a pipette tip) where a cell can be joined to form an electric seal, with the purpose that the clamping voltage of the entire cell is recorded. According to the invention, the electrode can form a high resistance electrical seal with a cell suspended in the liquid on the adjacent liquid / air surface without the need to compress the cell against a solid support surface. The invention also provides an apparatus for carrying out the adjoining surface membrane puncture technique and the control logic for operating a computer for performing the adjoining surface membrane puncture technique.
