abstract According to the present invention there is provided a method for the treatment of vulcanized rubber comprising the steps of: providing a sulfur solution in a fatty acid or ester or a salt thereof, mixing the solution with particulate vulcanized rubber; and heat the mixture for a period of time and at a pressure and temperature sufficient to substantially devulcanize the rubber.
