abstract |
Clusters of modified PKS genes that produce novel polycotics in an efficient system in a host cell or in an extract without cells are described. The novel polyketides result from the incorporation of novel deceases result from the incorporation of dikets of the formula (1) or (2) wherein A is a portion that is activated to the diketid, and at least one of R1 and R2 is a substituent other than the one that occurs natively in the dicetido normally processed by the modified PKS cluster. Polyketides can also be glycosylated to provide antibiotics. |
