A macromonomer of formula I is described: Q-PFPE-LML-PFPE-Q where Q can be the same or different, and is a polymerizable group, PFPE can be the same or different, is perfluorinated polyether of formula II: -OCH2CF2O (CF2CF2O) x (CF2O) and CF2CH2O- where CF2CF2O and CF2O units can be randomly distributed, or can be distributed as blocks throughout the entire chain, and where x and y can be the same or different, such that the molecular weight of perfluorinated polyether is on the scale of 242 to 4,000; L can be the same or different, and is a difunctional linking group; and M is a residue of a difunctional polymer or copolymer, where M has a molecular weight of 180 to 6,000 comprising silicone repeating units of formula III: where R1 and R2 can be the same or different, and are selected from starting from the group consisting of hydrogen alkyl, aryl, halogen-substituted alkyl, and the like. The macromonomer can be used in the production of contact lenses, corneal implants, cell growth substrates, or medical implants. |
