Stable antiseptic compositions are described which have a rapid killing action of microorganisms with a substantial reduction in number, and a profound persistent effect on a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including but without significant irritation to the tissue to which it is applied; The rapid elimination component of the present invention comprises one or more alcohols, lipids, preservatives or compounds containing nitrogen microbicides; The persistent component of the present invention comprises one or more microbicidal nitrogen-containing lipids, preservatives, or compounds that preferably bind to either or both of the skin's surface and intracellular structures within the epidermis; Additional components include antioxidants, ethoxylated cetyl and stearyl alcohols, colorants and texturizing compounds; preferred solutions comprise an alcohol such as 70% n-propanol or ethanol and bispyrithione, and also include fatty acids and fatty acid esters. |
