abstract |
Foams capable of absorbing blood and blood-based fluids, especially menstruation. These absorbent foams have high capillary absorption pressures required for absorbents used in catamenial products, yet still have sufficient consistency to allow free movement of the insoluble components of blood based fluids such as menstruation. These absorbent foams are made by internal phase alpha emulsion (HIPE) polymerization where the volume to weight ratio of water phase to oil phase is on the scale of about 20: 1 to about 125: 1. These foams are particularly useful as absorbent members for catamenial pads. |
