A liner and a method for lining implantable open network structure metal fixative prostheses are described; the coating includes a relatively thin layer of a biostable elastomeric material containing a quantity of biologically active material, particularly heparin, dispersed in the coating in combination with a non-thrombogenic surface; in one embodiment, the surface is provided with sites of high electronegativity species by means of fluorosilicon coating that aids in the control of elution, particularly the initial release rate and reduced thrombogenic activity; Other non-thrombogenic outer layers for heparin are also described, such as covalently linked polyethylene glycol (PEG). |
