abstract The invention provides novel compounds of formula (I). CF3-CXCl-CH (OH) CH2-C (CH3) 2-CH2-CO2R, where X represents chlorine or bromine and R represents hydrogen or alkyl of up to 4 carbon atoms, processes for preparing them and their use as intermediates in the preparation of insecticide derivatives of cyclopropane. Novel compounds of formula (IV) are also provided. BrCH2-CH2-C (CH3) 2-CH2-CO2R, where R represents alkyl of up to 4 carbon atoms, useful as intermediates in the preparation of the compounds of formula (I).
