titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING CHROMAN CARBOXYLATES.
abstract This invention relates to an improved process for the preparation of 5-methylchroman-6-carboxylic acid, an intermediate product useful in the preparation of chroman-containing diacylhydrazines, which are useful insecticides, by the reaction of a Hagermann ester with a propargyl derivative, in the presence of a base and a solvent, to produce a propargyl ether, rearrange this propargyl ether by applying heat, a suitable catalyst being present, with or without a solvent, to produce an ether type compound cyclic with a catalyst, in a suitable solvent, to produce a chromium ester. Propargyl esters and cyclic ether type compounds produced by the process of the present invention are novel.
