titleOfInvention SUPPORTED CATALYST FOR THE (CO) POLYMERIZATION OF 1-OLEFINS.
abstract The present invention relates to a supported catalyst composition useful for the polymerization of olefins and to a method for their production. The catalyst is formed by first reacting a trialkylaluminum compound with a metallocene transition metal, and subsequently reacting the resulting material with the support material without dehydrating to form a solid product containing at least 20 grams of support material per millimole of the transition metal. The resulting supported catalyst has a level of activity comparable to conventionally produced supported catalysts that are obtained in active metal fillers that are reduced from the fillers used in previously known metallocene-alumoxane catalysts by at least 20, and preferably in a 50. The invention relates in particular to the use of undried silica gel containing 6 to 20 weight percent of adsorbed water as the catalyst support material.
