titleOfInvention A COMPOSITION TO BRIGHTEN THE SKIN.
abstract The present invention is in the field of personal care compositions; in particular of compositions for lightening the skin. Niacinamide is believed to reduce the transfer of melanosomes from melanocytes to keratinocytes, thus causing lightening of the skin. However, niacinamide is known to have little or no direct effect on melanin content in melanocytes. Thus, it is still desired to obtain a composition exhibiting multiple modes of action, which combines the reduction of transfer of melanosomes with the reduction of melanin content in melanocytes. Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a composition with synergistic amounts of picolinamide and niacinamide, which provide better inhibition of melanosome transfer. It has been found that a synergistic skin lightening effect is obtained when niacinamide is combined with its isomer, picolinamide.
