METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING HUMEDECIBLE SILICONE HYDROGEL CONTACT LENSES. |
abstract |
A method for manufacturing a silicone hydrogel contact lens is described which comprises curing a polymerizable composition containing at least one siloxane monomer and at least one vinyl containing hydrophilic monomer in a contact lens mold that It has a molding surface having a coating containing a hydrophilic polymer. The hydrophilic coating is not solubilized by the polymerizable composition during the curing step. The resulting polymeric lens body is removed from the mold, washed to remove any remaining hydrophilic polymer that could have been transferred from the surface of the mold to the lens during the curing process or the lens removal process, and packaged in order to provide a silicone hydrogel contact lens having a contact angle that is less than the lens would otherwise have been cured in the same contact lens mold lacking the hydrophilic coating. |
