The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2-phenylbicyclooctane and octene of formula I (see gazette) or the addition salt thereof, where n is an integer ranging from 1 to 3, R1 is alkyl from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R2 is hydrogen or alkyl from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R is a 22-phenylbicyclo group of the formula: (see gazette) where R3 and R4 each represent a hydrogen atom, said hydrogen atoms being in a cis relationship, or atoms together represent a simple chemical bond; and wherein Ar represents an optionally substituted phenyl group, of the formula: (see gazette) wherein R5 and R6 individually represent the same or different substituents selected from hydrogen, trifluoromethyl nitro halogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; or taken together represent alkylene dixi of 1 to 3 carbino atoms, which procedure comprises renting a compound of the formula: (VII): (see gazette) with an alkylene agent selected from formaldehyde and hydrogen with a Pd / C halide catalyst alkyl, alkyl sulfate, alkyl chloroformate, and formic acid / formaldehyde, optionally followed, when R3 and R4 represent hydrogen atoms in cis, by the resolution of the product of formula (I) formed by alkylation to its enanthomedical form ( +) or (-). |
