A combination of immediate / prolonged release delivery system for compounds that have a short half-life, such as the anti-diabetic drug remogliflozin ethabonate, is provided and that provides a dosage form that has two characteristic release phases, a formula that promotes immediate release of the compound when ingested and another formula that delays the release of the compound so that the dosing regimen of remogliflozin ethabonate once a day can be achieved while providing effective control of plasma glucose and minimizing overnight expression to the compound. The administration system includes but is not limited to an enteric cover combination of an immediate release formula for prolonged release to be provided. Also provided are the methods for forming the immediate / prolonged release system and the use of said administration system to treat diabetic patients. |
