abstract | A method for extracting (meth) acrylic acid from an aqueous reaction medium to an organic phase in contact therewith is described. The aqueous reaction medium is formed of at least one base catalyst and at least one dicarboxylic acid selected from maleic, fumaric, malic, itaconic, citraconic, mesaconic, and citramalic acid or mixtures thereof in aqueous solution and contains the products of catalyzed base decarboxylation. The method includes either the addition of at least one of said dicarboxylic acids and / or a precursor thereof to the aqueous reaction medium to increase solvent extraction of (meth) acrylic acid to the organic solvent or maintain the level of the base catalyst. to the dicarboxylic acid and / or the precursor at a sub-stoichiometric level during the extraction process.
