abstract The present invention relates to an improved synthesis of N-monofluoroalkyl tropanes using fluoroalkyl iodides or fluoroalkyl sulphonate esters. The present invention also provides the use of said method to prepare FP-CIT non-radioactive tropane intermediates, and their subsequent conversion to 123L-labeled radiopharmaceutical DaTSCANTM (123l-yoflupane). The use of fluroalkyl iodides or fluoroalkyl sulphonate esters in the alkylation method of the present invention is also provided.
