titleOfInvention PROCEDURE FOR PREPARING 1 - ARIL - 2 - (1 - IMIDAZOL IL) ETHERS - ALKYL AND TIO ETHERS
abstract The present invention relates to a process for preparing 1-aryl-2- (1-imidazolyl) -alkyl ethers and thioethers having the formula: (SEE GAZETTE) wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4 are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; Ar is a phenyl group, which can be optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms, lower alkyl groups or lower alkoxy groups or a thienyl or halothienyl group; Z is O; S; n is 1 or 2; and Y is aromatic heterocyclic group optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms, lower alkyl groups or lower alkoxy groups and the acid addition salts thereof, characterized by reacting a compound of the formula: (SEE GAZETTE) where R1, R2, R3, R4, Ar and Z are as defined above, and a compound of the formula: W- (CH2) nY where n and Y are as defined above and W is a halogen atom in a reaction inert solvent, at a temperature of 0 to 70 degrees Celsius and then, if desired, to prepare a salt of the product formed in this way.
