abstract The present invention relates to a new process for the esterification of N-acylated amino acids containing an acid-labile ketoprotective group under alkaline conditions without using a polar aprotic solvent, wherein the N-acylated amino acid with an acid-labile ketoprotective group prepared in situ is esterified using an alkyl halide or a mono- or di-alkyl ester of sulfuric acid.
