abstract A genetically modified microorganism is described in which a nucleic acid encoding an enzyme that catalyzes a reaction that reduces 3-oxoadipyl-CoA to 3-hydroxydipil-CoA is introduced. In the genetically modified microorganism, one of the following actions is carried out: a nucleic acid encoding any of the polypeptides described in (a) to (c) below is introduced; or, expression of the polypeptide is enhanced: (a) a polypeptide composed of an amino acid sequence represented by any of SEQ. ID NO.: 1-6 and 213, (b) a polypeptide comprising any of the amino acid sequences of SEQ. ID NO.: 1-6 and 213 in which at least one amino acid has been substituted, deleted, inserted and/or added, the polypeptide has enzymatic activity that catalyzes a reaction that reduces 3-oxoadipyl-CoA to 3-hydroxyadipyl- CoA, and (c) a polypeptide having sequence identity to any of the amino acid sequences of SEQ. ID NO.: 1-6 and 213, the polypeptide having activity that reduces 3-oxoadipyl-CoA to 3-hydroxyadipyl-CoA.
