abstract Apparatus and methods for calculating and delivering doses of insulin and, optionally, glucagon in a subject. The online operation controls the supply of insulin correction dose automatically in response to periodic glucose measurements from a sensor, and the offline operation calculates and provides correction dose based on isolated glucose measurements and the information collected in a way autonomous during a previous online operation. In another aspect, the off-line operation includes calculating and automatically administering food doses based on the information collected autonomously during previous periods of online operation. Both methods include generating relevant control parameters suitable for the individual and continually convergent after, and potentially modulated, during the online operation. The control parameters are used in real time during periods of offline operation to regulate the glucose level without the need for control parameters provided by the user, such as correction factors and insulin to carbohydrate ratios.
