titleOfInvention SULFONATES OF FURAN-2, 5-DIMETHANOL AND (TETRAHIDROFURAN-2, 5-DIIL) DIMETHANOL AND DERIVATIVES OF THE SAME.
abstract A process for preparing molecules of mono- and / or furyne disulfonate from HMF reduction products is described, in particular, from 2,5-bis-hydroxymethyltetrahydrofurans (THF-diols) or furan-2,5-dimethanol (FDM) in relatively mild conditions. The process involves reacting THF-diols or FDM with at least one sulfonate species, and a reagent of 1) a nucleophilic base or 2) combining a non-nucleophilic base and a nucleophile, as two different reagents. Also provided are the synthesized fury sulfonates according to the process and some of the associated compounds that can be derivatized from the sulphonates.
