abstract A fluid delivery system provides a fluid, such as supplemental oxygen, to a patient in response to inhalation. The fluid delivery system includes a valve assembly that is activated by nasal flow detection. The system includes a sensor configured to detect flow, either directly through the nose, and to detect any "flow filtration" through a patient's nasal cavity while breathing through the mouth. A procedure is also provided for the preserved supply of fluid to a patient, which includes the detection of such a nasal flow.
