titleOfInvention TRANSDERMAL RELEASE SYSTEM.
abstract The invention relates to a transdermal therapeutic system for transdermal administration of buprenorphine, comprising a self-adhesive layer structure containing buprenorphine comprising A) a buprenorphine impermeable backing layer, and B) a pressure sensitive adhesive layer containing buprenorphine on said buprenorphine impermeable backing layer, the adhesive layer comprising a) at least one pressure sensitive polymer-based adhesive, b) an analgesically effective amount of buprenorphine base or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, c) a substance which increases the viscosity in an amount of about 0.1% to about 8% of said pressure sensitive adhesive layer containing buprenorphine, and d) a carboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, acid levulin and mixtures thereof, in an amount sufficient for said amount ef Buprenorphine-activated agent is solubilized therein to form a mixture including said substance that increases viscosity, and where the mixture containing carboxylic acid-, buprenorphine- and substance that increases viscosity forms dispersed deposits in said pressure sensitive adhesive, and where said pressure sensitive adhesive layer containing buprenorphine is the layer in contact with the skin.
