abstract |
A titanium dioxide pigment comprises a plurality of titanium dioxide particles, and a polymer deposited in the titanium dioxide particles to inhibit the agglomeration of the titanium dioxide particles in an aqueous base coating formulation. The titanium dioxide particles have anchor portions associated therewith to facilitate anchoring the polymer to the particles. The polymer is a copolymer that has anchor groups to bind to the anchor portions associated with titanium dioxide particles and hydrophobic end groups to bind to the ream of the coating formulation. In another aspect, the invention provides a method for manufacturing a titanium dioxide pigment. |
