titleOfInvention | AEROSOL INHALATION DEVICE. |
abstract | The present invention relates to an actuator (1) of an aerosol inhalation device comprising a housing that is adapted to receive an aerosol container (2) containing a pressurized medicament formulation, a portion of conduit through the which the user inhales, a nozzle assembly (5) and a hole (8) characterized by the presence of a tubular element (11) extending in the conduit portion from the opening of the hole in a longitudinal axis that is aligned with a longitudinal axis of the duct portion. In particular, such a tubular element is positioned to enclose the opening of the hole within a cavity. The tubular element is configured such that one of its terminal openings can have a tight fit with the outer surface of the nozzle assembly around the opening of the hole so that it can be in a continuous flow path with the hole. Among the advantages of the actuator of the invention is the significant reduction of the non-breathable thick fraction of the aerosol emitted medicament through inertial impact and retention in the actuator rather than in the oropharynx with the consequent lower associated side effects and oral candidiasis in the patient. In addition, the presence of the tubular element has a minimal and negligible impact on the fine particle dose and on the particle size distribution (PSD) of the administered particles having an aerodynamic diameter of less than 9 µm. |
