abstract | A system and method for the diagnosis of respiratory diseases in animals are provided, using auscultation techniques. The sounds of animal lungs are recorded and digitized. Pulmonary sounds are obtained by an electronic digital stethoscope in a wireless digital audio recording unit. The sounds are stored with digitized data and one or more algorithms are used in the data to produce or generate information to the user that is indicative of the animal's health. The acoustic characteristics of the sound are compared with a database in the algorithms. One embodiment includes a digital stethoscope with an integrated screen. Another embodiment provides a system for collecting information related to an animal, to include not only the auscultation information but also other information from other field devices such as temperature probe or scales. The combined information can be analyzed using the system software to generate detailed information to the user to include a diagnosis and recommended treatment options. |
