abstract |
Methods and compositions are provided to objectively characterize a pathological lesion in a patient. The method comprises: introducing a contrast enhancing agent into the patient; subject the patient to magnetic resonance imaging to obtain an image; and apply a 3-D autocorrelation function to a subdomain of interest in the image to obtain at least a 3-D autocorrelation spectrum. The method may further comprise comparing the 3-D autocorrelation spectra or spectra with a preexisting 3-D autocorrelation spectrum that is characteristic for pathological lesion. In one example, the methods and compositions may be useful for objectively identifying and characterizing deposits of amyloid plaques characteristic of Alzheimer's disease. |
