| abstract |
A disposable sterile breakable vial includes a control section and a vial section that can be completely separated in response to a manually applied separation force. The vial section includes a sterile recess with a dimension such that it can contain a unit dose of a sterile therapeutic topical agent. An elongate member comprises a proximal part supported by the handle section and a distal part provided with a sterile applicator element, such as a brush. At least the applicator element is completely enclosed in the vial section with the applied element immersed in the therapeutic topical agent. A tight seal between the handle and vial sections maintains the sterility of at least the vial section before separation of the control and vial section. The complete separation of the handle section and the vial section exposes the elongated member and the applicator element for the topical application of the therapeutic agent that soaks the applicator element. |
