Methods, microorganisms and compositions are provided, wherein petroleum deposits are inoculated with microorganisms belonging to Arcobacter of clade 1 and a medium that includes an electron acceptor. Arcobacter strains grow in the oil reservoir to form shutter biofilms that reduce permeability in areas of underground formations and, therefore, increase sweep efficiency and improve oil recovery. |
