abstract A process for preparing polyether alcohols is proposed by reacting in one reactor one or more unsaturated initiators having at least one active hydrogen atom per molecule, with one or several alkylene oxides in the liquid phase, in the presence of a basic catalyst, characterized because the metered additive of one or several alkylene oxides in the reactor is carried out in such a way that the concentration of unreacted alkylene oxide in the liquid reaction mixture inside the reactor, as the degree of addition of alkylene oxide is increased by initiator, is increased as much as possible, having to fulfill at all times the condition that the temperature at the end of the reaction out of control is at least 100 K below the temperature of initiation of the reaction of decomposition of the mixture of liquid reaction.
