abstract | The invention describes an in situ combustion process, a process that does not employ one or more separate gas vent wells. At least one vertical production well that has a substantially vertical portion that extends downwards in the reservoir and a horizontal support portion that extends horizontally outwardly thereof completed relatively low in the reservoir is provided. At least one vertical oxidant gas injection well placed, above and in spaced relationship to the horizontal well, is placed laterally along the horizontal well approximately mid-section thereof. Oxidising gas is injected therein and different conduits are made to progress outwardly into the injection well in mutually opposite directions along the horizontal well. Preferably, a plurality of injection wells are provided along the direction of the horizontal well, and oxidizing gas is injected into each combustion front which causes it to progress outward and in opposite directions to each other, and is caused to drain the oil in the horizontal well, oil that along with the hot combustion gases is produced towards the surface. |
