abstract The present invention provides a new process for the easy and economical obtaining of (R) - (-) - praziquantel, (S) - (+) - praziquantel, as well as a process for the synthesis of its main hydroxylated metabolites. The process of the present invention involves the resolution of praziquanamine 12,3,6,7,11b-hexahydro-4H-pyrazino [2,1-a] isoquinolin-4-one, with (S) - (+) - naproxen as a resolution agent; while the synthesis of cis and trans-4'-hydroxylated stereoisomers of (R) - (-) - praziquantel is carried out from the mixture cis and trans-4'-hydroxycyclohexanecarboxylate ethyl and (R) - (- ) -praziquanamine.
