titleOfInvention SUSTAINED RELEASE CAPSULES.
abstract The invention relates to an intrarruminal sustained-release capsule that is capable of delivering a sustained-release dose of a first medicament to an animal, as well as either or both of an emptying dose of a second medicament or mineral, and a dose of exit of a third medication or mineral. The capsule may have a molded, soluble starch of plasticized starch that allows a dose of drug emptying to be maintained between the overcap and one end of the capsule. A piston inside the capsule body can be modified to allow it to accommodate an outlet dose of medication within its hollow interior that is aligned with an opening at the end of the capsule that allows the release of the medications to the rumen. After insertion of the capsule into the animal the overcap (if present) dissolves and separates from the capsule to release the dose of drug emptying. The sustained-release medication is then supplied via the perforated end, followed by the release of the medication's output dose (if present).
