A compound having an agonist activity of GPR4O and useful for use in a pharmaceutical composition or useful as an insulin secretion promoter or a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for diabetes is described. Numerous studies have been done on compounds that have an agonist activity of GPR40. As a result, it was found that a compound (I) that has a carboxylic acid attached to the second or third ring portion through a methylene group or has a benzene ring attached to the second or third ring portion through an -O-methylene, -NH-methylene group, where the benzene ring has been replaced by a 6-membered monocyclic aromatic ring, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of compound (I) having excellent GPR40 agonist activity. It was also found that the compound has excellent insulin secretion promoting activity and can prevent the increase of a blood glucose level after aggressive glucose tolerance. |
