titleOfInvention | METHOD FOR MAKING SILICONE HYDROGEL CONTACT LENSES. |
abstract | A method for producing silicone hydrogel contact lenses, and a silicone hydrogel contact lens thereof. The method comprises the steps of: providing a mold to make a soft contact lens, wherein the mold has a first half of mold with a first molding surface defining the anterior surface of a contact lens, and a second half of mold with a second molding surface defining the rear surface of the contact lens, wherein the first and second mold halves are configured to receive each other in such a way that a cavity is formed between the first and second molding surfaces ; introducing a monomeric mixture of lens-forming materials into the cavity, wherein the monomeric mixture comprises at least one hydrophilic vinyl amide monomer, at least one (meth) acrylamide monomer containing siloxane, at least one vinyl monomer or macromer of polysiloxane, and from about 0.05 percent to about 1.5 percent by weight of a photoinitiator, where the lens-forming material is characterized by the ability to cure itself by ultraviolet (UV) light having an ultraviolet (UV) intensity ) of approximately 4.1 mW / cm2 within approximately 100 seconds; and irradiating, under a spatial limitation of actinic radiation, the lens-forming material in the mold, for a period of approximately 120 seconds or less, as to cross-link the lens-forming material in order to form the contact lens of silicone hydrogel, wherein the contact lens comprises an anterior surface defined by the first molding surface, an opposite posterior surface defined by the second molding surface, and a lens edge defined by the spatial limitation of actinic radiation. |
