The present invention relates to methods and compositions for modulating the levels of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptide exhibited in non-neuronal (i.e. peripheral) cells, fluids or tissues. The invention also relates to the modulation of Aβ levels through selective modulation (eg, inhibition) of y-secretase activity. The invention also relates to methods for preventing, treating or improving the symptoms of a disorder including, but not limited to, an Aβ-related disorder by administering a compound that causes the modulation of y-secretase in a non-neuronal tissue, both directly or indirectly, to prevent, treat or improve the symptoms of a brain Aß disorder, such as Alzheimer's disease. |
