abstract The present invention relates to an alpha-viral replicase, especially Semliki Forest Virus replicase, or an expression vector encoding an alpha-viral replicase, the alpha-viral replicase comprising RNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity, for use as a modulator adjuvant to the immune system. Alphaviral replicase can be used in combination with a vaccine by providing an adjuvant function thereof, which when presented there will generate an additional stimulus to the immune response in the subject to whom this combination is administered as compared when the vaccine alone It is administered to a subject who needs it. The purpose of the present invention is to provide an independent, efficient and easy-to-administer species adjuvant that will provide advantages to adjuvants used in conjunction with today's vaccines.
