abstract | A method is described for the identification of compounds that control the synthesis of melanin (melanogenesis), and the preparation and use of said compounds, and compositions and formulations thereof to modify (for example, inhibit) the production of melanin. A representative compound of the invention is defined by Formula I: Mel. The compounds can be prepared as pharmaceutical and cosmetic compositions, and in one embodiment they can be prepared in combination with each other and with other melanogenesis inhibitory formulations. The compounds, compositions and formulations of the invention can be used for the prevention and treatment of conditions that are causally related to aberrant melanogenesis activity including, by way of non-limiting example, hyperpigmentation and others. |
