titleOfInvention | LASER ABLATION ENDOLUMINAL DEVICE WITH LASER AND METHOD TO TREAT VENES. |
abstract | An improved method and device is provided for safe and efficient endoluminal treatment at low power density of venous insufficiency. Such a device emits pulse energy or continues radially through one end of an optical fiber with a tapered tip for a 360 ° radial emission. In some embodiments, a conical reflecting surface is separated distally opposite, and oriented to the emitting tip to improve the efficiency of the radial emission, reflecting any forward transmitted energy designed or remaining in the radial directions. Other devices include the flat emitting faces sealed within radiation transparent protective covers. The laser radiation is transmitted at a wavelength and potential such that it is absorbed substantially all within the wall of the blood vessel to sufficiently damage the intravascular endothelium and, in turn, achieve closure of the blood vessel. Because the energy is substantially absorbed all within the wall of the blood vessel, the need for a local anesthetic along the treatment area of the blood vessel can be substantially avoided. |
