abstract The present invention relates to a process for dehydration of at least one alcohol to make at least one olefin, comprising: introducing into a reactor a flow (A) comprising at least one alcohol, optionally water, optionally a component inert, contacting said flow with a catalyst in said reactor under conditions effective to dehydrate at least a portion of the alcohol to make an olefin, recovering from said reactor an olefin contained in the flow (B), wherein the catalyst is:? a crystalline silicate having a Si / Al ratio of at least about 100, or? a skimmed crystalline silicate, or? a phosphorus modified zeolite, the WHSV of the alcohols is at least 2 h-1, the temperature varies from 280 ° C to 500 ° C. This also relates to the same process as above but where the catalyst is a phosphorus modified zeolite and in any WHSV. The partial pressure of the alcohol in the dehydration reactor advantageously varies from 1.2 to 4 absolute bar (0.12Mpa to 0.4Mpa), the temperature of the dehydration reactor varies advantageously from 300 ° C to 400 ° C and the alcohol is selected from ethanol, propanol, butanol and phenylethanol.
