abstract Compositions and methods to reduce the impact of hard water on the foaming of a drywall. The compositions include adding a foam to water and a calcined slurry. The foam includes water, dispersed air and a surface active agent. Surfactants for use include a hydrophobic portion that includes a distribution of alkyl chain lengths that include about 20% to about 60% of C8 chains; about 20% to about 60% of G10 chains; about 14% to about 36% of C12 chains and about 2% to about 20% of C14 chains and also have a hydrophilic portion having about 0.2 to 3.0 epoxy groups.
